In the town of Aleksandrovac, Zdravković Budimir – affectionately known as “Deda Buda” (“Grandfather Buda” in English) – has been crafting nearly 80 vintages of authentic wines. In 2006, his son-in-law Aleksander Rašković made a bold but imperative decision to systematically commercialize Budimir’s wines, allowing the wines to not only be available to wine lovers in Serbia but also around the world. The Boje Lila Prokupac is made from Prokupac grapes grown on bush vines that were planted more than a century ago. 2009 is the first vintage of this wine, and it was aged for over 60 months before It is a medium-bodied wine that packs a lot of herbaceous, earthy notes.

The Prokupac gains a bigger frame with the help of Cabernet Sauvignon here. This wine brings opulence on the nose and punches on the palate. The acidity brightens the wine and shaves off some weight, giving this wine immediate drinkability, and at the same time, signaling its potential to evolve in the cellar. In 2006, his son-in-law Aleksander Rašković made a bold but imperative decision to systematically commercialize Budimir’s wines, allowing the wines to not only be available to wine lovers in Serbia but also around the world. The SvB Rosa, which means “under the rose”, is a blend of 60% Prokupac and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Prokupac grapes are grown on old bush vines. SvB Rosa 2007, the inaugural vintage of this wine is the first Serbian wine to receive 90 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.

Typical for 19th century Bordeaux wines, blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah (which is quite specific for Rhone Valley), proof once again it’s full exuberance. Intense aromas of ripe black and red fruits (from Merlot and Cabernet), are in perfect harmony with dark chocolate and lavender aromas (from Syrah). Aging in oak, not only gives one more aromatic layer to wine complexity but has a quite positive influence on its overall balance.

Erdevik Winery is located in the village of Erdevik, region of Syrmia (present-day Serbia) in western foothills of Alma Mons (Fruska Gora). Surrounded by a mild hillside in Fruska Gora, vast plains in the south and located at 140 meters above sea level, Erdevik, with its three lakes is one of the most beautiful villages in the region of Syrmia (Srem). In 1697 most Syrmia province and therefore Erdevik became part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and were ruled by Italian nobility of Odescalchi family who aided King Leopold I defend the city of Vienna during the Ottoman siege. Name of the village Erdevik was derived out of Hungarian word ERDOVEG meaning forested area. In Erdevik first vines were planted in 276 during the reign of Roman emperor Probus. In the early nineteenth century village of Erdevik had many vineyards, so count Livio Odescalchi built a cellar and a winery. Present-day Erdevik winery is a synergy of tradition and modern approach to winemaking where premium wines are produced exclusively from an estate owned vineyard located on the right bank of river Danube.

This is the best-selling red wine of Vino Budimir, and it’s easy to see why.
