Pošip from Smokvica vineyards on Korčula island, kept on fine lees with battonage over 6 months and additionally aged in wooden barrels. It performs grapey and yeasty in the mouth, with some influence from ageing in wood and needs time in a glass to fully take shape. Structured for ageing in bottle.

  • Pasta with truffles

In the center of the island of Korčula, the freshwater ponds that feed the vineyards of the village of Smokvica are a remarkable gift of nature. Local people call this place “Merga Victa,” meaning “path for water” in old Dalmatian dialect. Vineyards are located on the outskirts of Smokvica, the birthplace of Pošip. Local people have planted indigenous grape varieties on terraced fields carved out of rocky hillsides, fed by the water from the streams. Today’s winemakers do most of their work by hand, just like their ancestors.

This wine features a wonderful straw-yellow color with a golden sheen. It is crystal clear and full-bodied. The bouquet opens with notes of quince compote, followed by dry fern, star anise, vanilla, and herbs. This wine is dry, partly warm and soft while retaining a crisp freshness, mild tannins, excellent minerality, and full body. This is a wonderfully balanced wine with an intense flavor and a long finish. It is harmonious and flavourful with notes of butter, ripe peach, and bitter almond in the aftertaste.

Kabola Winery is situated in the northwestern Istrian peninsula at 275m above sea level, with a view of the Alps and the Dolomites on one side and the lush greenery of pristine nature and a beautiful sea panorama on the other. Their vineyards are located on Stancija hill near the winery in Kanedolo near Momjan. The soil consists mainly of clay and is rich in marl, which gives the wines their special characteristics. Wine demands the freshness of the underground – it desires peace. In the cellar, the wine is crafted in order to bring out the desired features. Through shorter or longer maceration in oak barrels and amphorae, Kabola grapes gain special notes. The wine produced in amphorae is the crown of Kabola’s work. Nature and earth have endowed them with an entirely new dimension in Malvasia and Teran. Prolonged fermentation in amphorae and aging without removing the marc and the lees until late spring bring out its nobility.

Boutique wines such as the limited series KORIA are the fruit of the vision, richness and diversity of the Kutjevo terroir, reduced to quality and deserve special attention as wine lovers. Both in the aroma and taste of the wine, the KORIA lines are complex, characteristic and layered with a long aftertaste, and as such, an excellent accompaniment to selected, sophisticated dishes. Wines that will leave no one indifferent require good company and top gastronomic accompaniment to enjoy it fully.

Indigenous Croatian variety Pošip is consider to be the white wine varieties with greatest potential. There is no tropical fruitiness like in regular Pošip 2013. At first, the smell is neutral, on the nose it reminds of the sea mixed with a touch of peach and apple. But, precisely in this discreet and primarily mineral flavor lies the very delicate core of the aged Pošip as a variety. In the mouth it shows that the taste is still developing.

The winery is from the island Brač, unique and famous for its white stone (Stina). Many famous Croatian poets, authors, sculptors and painters were born on Brač. Brač stone has always been a source of inspiration due to its beauty, but it is also a symbol of hardship when it comes to viticulture and viniculture. And that is where the inspiration for the name STINA comes from. In the Dalmatian dialect, this word means stone, the strongest symbol of the island of Brač. The grapes for this wine come from island of Brač, from younger and older vineyards in the inland of the island that is suitable for growing this variety. All actions during cultivation in the vineyards are performed manually. The harvest is done manually and selectively early in the morning, in order to preserve freshness and flavor in the grapes.
