Melini Brunello di Montalcino 2015

melini_brunello_di_montalcino
- +
$73.99

Melini’s Gaggiano winery is based at 300 metres asl, on the Chianti Classico hills, along the road from Poggibonsi to Castellina in Chianti. Here, next to the original ancient block, a modern four-floor cellar was built on the hillside between 1970 and 1974. It was designed to put in place separate production for each vineyard, and apply the cru technique. All winemaking processes, from the drying rooms to barrel ageing and bottling, are undertaken using specific techniques that pursue the quality philosophy. Melini aspires to the highest levels of the quality, as the expression of a rich and diversified winemaking style, but also expressing love of the land and of nature. Melini knows the value of wine and for this reason has always invested in its development, one step ahead of a market in continuous evolution.

Brunello di Montalcino is one Italy’s most famous and prestigious wines. All Brunello di Montalcino wine is made exclusively from Sangiovese grapes grown on the slopes around Montalcino – a classic Tuscan hilltop village 20 miles (30km) south of Siena. The word Brunello translates roughly as ‘little dark one’, and is the local vernacular name for Sangiovese Grosso, the large-berried form of Sangiovese which grows in the area. Deep red color with garnet lights. Very intense aromas hinting at plum jam and tobacco with a faint liquorice nuance. It possesses a powerful yet soft structure, a full, harmonious palate, and a very leisurely finish.
