Valdespino, one of the oldest and only one of the few family producers in Jerez. Alfonso Valdespino was a knight who, along with King Alfonso X, fought for the city of Jerez against the Arabs in 1264. As a reward for his sacrifice, he was given land in Jerez. Today, Valdespino is owned by the Estevez family, who own 750 hectares of orchards and one of the few to operate a single vineyard Sherry wines.

Valdespino is the only producer to make single vineyard sherry. Macharnudo Alto is the most esteemed ‘grand cru’ vineyard in Jerez. Undoubtedly Inocente is the most convincing fine, unique in that it ferments naturally on ambient yeasts in old (600L) American oak barrels. At the time of bottling, Inocente is a wine with an average age of 10 years, while most other sherry wines come on the market after a modest 3 years of aging according to the Solera system.
