Krauthaker anniversary: 30 years of setting the standards

Last evening, a significant jubilee was celebrated with a gala dinner in Zinfandel’s restaurant at the Esplanade Hotel in Zagreb. One of the most renowned Croatian wineries – the Krauthaker winery, celebrated its 30th anniversary in the company of friends, leading distributors and people who followed it, some from the first day.

Vlado Krauthaker is undoubtedly one of the most successful Croatian winemakers. At the same time, we do not look at success solely through the development and growth of the winery. True, the stable growth from literally one to 47 hectares of vineyards, numerous world awards for wine quality and a stable position on the domestic and dozens of foreign markets is impressive.

However, what makes the Krauthaker winery particularly significant are the successes that establish a higher quality standard not only for Kutjevo but for Slavonia and the whole of Croatia:

Reliability and consistency

Krauthaker is one of the few wineries that has been a safe bet for 30 years. Although there are expected oscillations from vintage to vintage, the Krauthaker name guarantees that it consistently delivers at least the expected level of excellence.

And in some vintages, Krauthaker surprises even when you think they couldn’t possibly.

Affirmation of Croatian winemaking

Krauthaker is one of the most deserving wineries for the affirmation of Graševina and the whole of Croatia. Their so-called “slash label” is established as the standard for quality Graševina in Croatia, while Krauthaker’s Single Vineyard Graševina is the subject of expert study of terroir characteristics.

The results that Krauthakler achieves with his Graševina wines are certainly greatly responsible for a recognition that gave Croatia the autochthonousness of the Graševine variety and primacy as the official first name for the variety.

Passion and experimenting

Krauthaker is known for his constant questioning and “experimentation” with numerous varieties that have no traditional connection with Kutjevo but achieve fascinating results in the hands of Krauthaker winery.

Of the white varieties, there is Zelenac, better known as Rotgipfler in the Austrian Thermenregion, and Verduzzo, a distinctive variety from the Italian Friuli region. Of the red ones, it is undoubtedly Nebbiolo, the great Italian black variety, then Zinfandel, which, thanks to the discovery of genetics, is more and more common today, but in Dalmatia, not Slavonia.

Krauthaker winery has a bright future. The reason for optimism is certainly Martina Krauthaker taking over the helm. The Vlado’s daughter also inherited a passion for winemaking, so she successfully continues the winery’s high standards, ready to face new challenges.
